OnePlus after the series of 7, is back with a revamped, lower-cost flagship smartphone series OnePlus 8. OnePlus 8 has 3 variants: OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8T, and OnePlus 8 Pro. Launched on 21st April 2021, the OnePlus 8 arrived in Nepal in August 2020. OnePlus 8 is the successor to the OnePlus 7 that will eventually replace the OnePlus 7T. OnePlus 8 Overview
While comparing the OnePlus 8 with its predecessor, the new features are the 5G support, Snapdragon 865 processor, which gives better performance and efficiency. The smartphone has a glossy finish and is lightweight, which weighs 180g. Running at the refresh rate of 90Hz, the OnePlus 8 gives an excellent enhancement with smoother scrolling and animations.
Design and Build Quality
A slight change in design is made by OnePlus, as the curve AMOLED display panel with a selfie shooter punched hole on the top-left corner giving a fresh look to the phone. A 3D Corning Gorilla Glass is used, although the screen protection is pre-applied. An aluminum frame with a matte finish gives a classy look to the phone.
OnePlus 8 is comfortable in holding. With a display size of 6.55-inch; the phone is also lightweight (180g). The resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, HDR10+ support, and a refresh rate of 90Hz are other specifications. An in-display fingerprint sensor for authentication is super quick.
Similarly, the volume rockers are on the left. A dual speaker is at the bottom. However, you do not get the headphone jack and have to use USB C or wireless headphones. The alert slider is side-mounted at the right.
The back also has Gorilla Glass 5 protection and the same vertical camera alignment. The branding with the full name in bold font is at the end, which is new.
Performance
Powered by Snapdragon 865 Chipset, the OnePlus 8 is 25% faster and 20 % power efficient than the previous generation of the phone. The phone also supports 5G connectivity. The two variants of RAM with 8/128 GB and 12/256 GB are available.
The phone comes with Oxygen OS 10.0 based on Android 10, upgradable to Android 11. We get the GPU of Adreno 650.
Gaming performance is top-notch. You have the Game Space option to lock the brightness level temporarily, disable the income notifications temporarily, and reduce distractions while gaming.
Camera
On the rear, OnePlus 8 has a 48MP primary camera with f/1.75 aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2MP macro lens with f/2.4 aperture. The dual-LED flash, auto HDR, and panorama complement the camera. The pictures in daylight have details with vibrant colors and balanced HDR. The wide-angle camera is also useful, while the macro camera is not as useful as the clarity is not well defined. Other features like multi autofocus, nightscape, micro, portrait, pro mode, cat&dog face detection and focus, AI scene detection are available.
The video is recordable at 4K @ 30/60 fps, 1080p @ 30/60/240 fps. Time-lapse and super slow motion are other features.
The selfie camera is 16MP Sony IMX471, which is also the same as the OnePlus 8 Pro. The camera gives fine pictures but fails in low light.

Battery
OnePlus 8 has a non-removable battery of 4300mAh that supports 30W warp charging. As per the company’s claim, the battery charges up to 50% in just 22 minutes, which is quite impressive. The user also has the option to save the battery by reducing the refresh rate to 60Hz.
