OnePlus has stamped its brand in the smartphone field with a motto of “Never Settle,” which means releasing a new phone every six months with new specifications and changes. OnePlus 8 Pro Overview
OnePlus 8 Pro is an IP68 rated phone, dust and water-resistant, and runs at 120Hz at the QHD+ resolution. The phone has a vivid and bright display. The phone offers excellent performance and massive usage and a powerful battery with fast charging and an admirable camera setup. However, if you want to expand the memory, you don’t have the option for it.
Design and Build Quality
The overall design of the phone is very similar to the previous generation 7 pro. OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a 6.78-inches Fluid AMOLED QHD+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It has an A+ grade from DisplayMate.
The power key is on the right side with an alert slider just above it. On the left is the volume rocker. The in-call speaker is slit at the top of the edge-to-edge screen along with a punch-hole for the selfie shooter. Likewise, the dual nano-SIM tray is the bottom, left to the USB-C port. The back has a camera setup vertically above the branding logo.
Performance
For the improvement of the experience, the OnePlus 8 Pro has made notable changes to OxygenOS 10 that run on Android 10. Some of the changes are new system icons, dynamic wallpaper, and refined animations. The new display is smoother and highly responsive.
An in-display fingerprint scanner is quick and reliable. You can also unlock the phone using face recognition. The always-on display option for the Ambient Display clock is impressive.
The processor is Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, an octa-core with 1×2.84 GHz Kryo 585 gold high-performance core, 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 585 Gold medium-duty cores, and 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 585 Silver efficiency cores. RAM variants are 8GB and 12GB paired with 128GB and 256GB, respectively. The phone has LPDDR5X RAM.
Camera
The back’s vertically stacked camera is both longer and wider using a brand-new Sony IMX689 48MP sensor. The main camera has optical stabilization. In addition to this, there is also a 48MP sensor behind the ultra-wide-angle lens. There is an 8MP telephoto camera located next to the other three vertically stacked cameras. After that, the phone has a newly added camera of a 5MP “Color Filter” camera.
Shots with the OnePlus 8 Pro are sharp and well-exposed with adequate details. Dynamic range is good enough with true-to-life and white balance along with the scene. The camera images are 12MP by default, but you can also shoot them with full resolutions.
The ultra-wide camera has improved its consistency in white balance and exposures, which was the complaint faced by 7 Pro. Similarly, the telephoto camera is not good enough while capturing a wide dynamic range of pictures. The new color filter camera distorts the color pretty amazingly. The portrait is captured with the telephoto camera by default.
The selfie camera is a 16MP, the same as the one we get in OnePlus 7 Pro. Great selfie with dynamic range and the right amount of sharpness captures the front camera.
The smartphone can capture video up to 4K @60fps and other resolutions of 720p @ 480fps or 1080p @240fps slow motion. A new “4K Cine” video mode is available. 4K video gives great details and dynamic range.
Battery
Powering the phone is a 4510 mAh battery. It has a Warp Charge of 30T that can charge the phone from 0 to 63% in half an hour. An optimized charging option can understand your usage patterns and temporarily slow the charging while the phone is plugged in.
