Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime Overview
Grab the Redmi 9 prime, if you want mammoth battery capacity and massive internal memory. The 4GB variant of the RAM ensures seamless performance, and the P2i nano-coating gives protection against accidental splash. Though the phone is quite bulky, you can compromise on that aspect for your spending budget. It is powered by Android (Q), which is the latest.
Design and Build Quality
The new Redmi is very attractive and comes with a pleasant texture on the back and thin bezels on display. It has a 6.53-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD. The water-drop notch on the top houses a selfie camera, and the display has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Additionally, the aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The phone weighs 198 grams.
The back has a fingerprint-like texture, while the side has a matte finish. The triple camera is vertically aligned within a single black glass at the back. Just below the camera lies a fingerprint sensor.
The single LED flash and a 5MP macro camera are housed on the side in a vertical pill-shaped notch. You will see a speaker, a mouthpiece, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom. The volume rocker, along with power keys, is on the right side, while a triple card slot is on the left. Following this, the top has the second mic and an IR blaster, which lets you use the phone as a remote to control other appliances.
Performance
Redmi 9 Prime is powered by a 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio G80 octa-core processor, and GPU is ARM G52, ticking at 1000MHz. Also, HyperEngineGame technology has improved the gaming experience. Both heavy and light games are handled without much trouble. The phone has storage in two different configurations- 3/32 GB and 4/64 GB, further expandable up to 512GB.
The phone runs on MIUI 11 based on Android 10 OS. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Also, the dark mode is available. MIUI also offers a security app for scanning the phone for malware.
Camera
The camera setup of the AI quad-camera has a primary wide-angle camera of 13MP of f/2.2 aperture, a primary sensor of 8MP, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth camera. The selfie shooter is 8MP with an f/2.0 aperture.
The primary camera manages to take decent photos. The AI can easily detect scenes and lock focus quickly. The images under good light have detail and excellent color, while the wide-angle lens creates images with extra noise and less detail. After that, the micro camera images are surprisingly better but takes time to process. The camera’s UI is comfortable and has the features to switch between HDR, AI, Pro mode, and Portrait mode. The images you get for this budget is excellent.
For the front camera, the details are mediocre, while the contrast and colors are okay. You can see the noise, and the average dynamic range is satisfactory. The selfie also has a portrait mode.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime captures 1080p @30fps video with a primary, ultra-wide, and macro camera. The bitrate for the video is 20Mbps. Lack of stabilization can disappoint you for the videos. The primary camera gives average footage with dull color; however, the noise is low.
Battery
A non-removable 5020mAh battery fuels Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime. The smartphone has a USB Type-C port for charging and supports an 18W fast charge but ships with a 10W adapter.
