Redmi Note 9 Pro, Launched Globally As Redmi Note 9S

Redmi Note series are at their ninth generation and enjoying a warm reception from the users globally. The Redmi Note 9S, a global variant of Redmi note 9 Pro, launched on 30th April 2020, is available in Nepal.

Redmi Note 9S price in Nepal is NPR 26,999 for 4/128 GB and NPR 29,999 for 6/128 GB. Redmi Note 9S is confused but is the same phone as the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Looking at all the other offering from the Xiaomi in Nepal, the smartphone looks promising. 

Redmi Note 9S Overview

The phone has an impressive glossy look with a large and bright LCD screen with HDR10 support, a capable chipset, a massive battery, and a quad-camera setup at the back, giving good photo and video quality. The phone has an excellent battery life. Redmi Note 9S offers more than enough features for its budget. By contrast, the charging speed could have been faster since fast charging adaptation is booming all around.

Design and Build Quality

The phone has a good design with a good build plastic frame. The display has a hefty 6.67 inches IPS LCD screen and thin bezels. A punch hole at the top houses the selfie shooter. Just above it lies the earpiece grille, almost invisible. The Gorilla Glass 5 protection is on both front and back. A fingerprint sensor is side-mounted and is impressively fast and accurate. The phone weighs 207 grams. P2i nano-coating makes the phone splash-proof.

On the bottom lies a speaker grille, a microphone, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the sim-card tray is on the left. Similarly, the volume rocker and fingerprint sensor are on the right.

IR blaster and noise-canceling microphone are at the top. The quad-camera resides on a small but humping sharp square, making the phone wobble on the desk. The frame made up of plastic has a matte finish.

Performance

Snapdragon 720G chipset powers the phone. The SoC uses Octa-core (2×2.3 GHz Kryo 465 gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 465 Silver). The GPU is Adreno 618, giving smooth graphics and supporting multitasking in the phone. Following this, Note 9S is available in two variants of the RAM and storage configurations: 4/128 GB and 6/128 GB, upgradable via a microSD card.

Redmi Note 9S boots the MIUI 11.0.7 and runs on top of Android 10 OS. The phone also supports dark mode. Furthermore, the icons, along with their colors, are redesigned. MIUI 11 has a refined look with small clutter, and the Redmi has given the minimalistic design in the new settings app.

Camera

The phone has a quad-camera setup in a square bump at the back, housing an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 48MP primary camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro shooter.

The output of the primary camera is 12MP. It has a better dynamic range, low noise, great details, and contrast. An improvement in saturation and details is in Redmi Note 9S compared to Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Ultra-wide-angle output but lacks details and dynamic range. Night mode images offer better color and light exposure in low light photography. The 8MP snapper gives great ultra-wide photos for the budget you spend with enough details.

Video of 4K @30fps, 1080p @60fps and 1080p @ 30fps is recordable. Among them, the video quality of 1080p @30fps is amazing, with great stabilization and details.

The 16MP selfie shooter is at the front housing in the punch hole. The selfies are not much sharp. However, the photos look good with HDR. A portrait selfie is pleasing.

Battery

A 5020 mAh battery fuels the phone and offers excellent endurance, supporting an 18W fast charge but ships with 22.5W brick.

The battery takes 1 hour and 45 minutes for a full charge. It has impressive talk time, video playback time, and web browsing.
