OnePlus Nord launch is a competitive approach by the company to enter the mid-range smartphones market while Keeping up with its brand tag “value for money.” Simply being one of the most plugged topics of 2020 in the smartphone segment, OnePlus Nord is expected to be the next mid-range flagship killer. The OnePlus Nord variant of the 8GB + 128GB model is now available in Nepal for Rs. 54,999. The set price makes it one of the most affordable mid-range devices with premium standards, directly tying it up against other same range phones like Google Pixel A series, Galaxy A series, Realme X50, and Mi Note 10 lite.
Design and Build Quality
OnePlus Nord adapts a similar design as the earlier devices from the brand and shares lots of resemblance with its flagship OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 pro. The phone retains the OnePlus alert slider button to switch between audio modes, placed at the right edge. The power button is right below the slider, whereas the Dual Sim tray, Speaker grill, and Type-C port are placed at the bottom side. The device doesn’t carry an external SD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
OnePlus Nord features a 6.44 inches AMOLED display with 2400×1080 pixels resolution and a refresh rate of 90Hz, which is super smooth and responsive to give users more engaging and immersive experiences. The in-display fingerprint scanner has impressive speed and accuracy.
The phone is plastic framed and comes with Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both front and rear sides. Its comfortably handy body gives a glossy effect on the surface and has a metallic sensation throughout the frame. OnePlus Nord is available in two featured colors: Gray Onyx and Blue Marble.
Performance
OnePlus Nord is the first-ever device from the company not to use its flagship processor and is instead powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 756G 5G processor. Despite its new processor optimized to other flagship processor phones, the performance is good enough for high-end loading tasks like gaming. It delivers the same fluid response as the flagship devices.
It operates OxygenOS 10.5 based on Android 10, a clean UI, and complementary animations. It has similar interfaces and features as OnePlus flagship phones, including Zen mode, a built-in screen recorder, ambient display customization, and other gesture controls.
OnePlus Nord comes in three different RAM and internal storage preferences: 6GB + 64GB, 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB.
Playing games with heavy graphics such as PUBG Mobile, Call Of Duty, and Asphalt with the highest visual setting can still be smooth and lag-free with a mere heating issue.
Video streaming with HDR aspects from YouTube or Netflix on the OnePlus Nord display is highly appealing. Dirac’s software enhancement makes the single speaker sound more powerful and the audio surrounding it.
Camera
OnePlus Nord comes with four rear and two front cameras, featuring a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary camera at the back with three secondary sensors as an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor.
All four cameras are placed vertically on a single row with a pill-shaped cutout. The rear quad camera also has an f/1.75 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization. Selfie Camera has a 32MP Sony IMX616 primary camera and an 8MP wide-angle secondary camera. The dual front camera is placed on the left top corner of the screen in another pill-shaped punch hole.
The camera app functionalities are similar to those of the OnePlus 8 Series. All the available shooting modes are found at the bottom, and the selection menu for flash, timer, resolution, macro mode, and filters are at the top.
The photography options range from portrait and macro mode to ultra-wide and nightscape modes. It also supports 4k video recording at 30fps with both front and rear cameras, allowing up to 10x zoom and slow-motion video recording at 1080p and 240fps.
Battery
OnePlus Nord is backed by a 4115 mAH battery and supports WrapCharge 30, T, fast charging. The WrapCharge 30T technology enables the phone to get around 50% battery time by charging for 30 minutes. It takes about an hour to get fully charged and reasonably last a day on regular usage. However, wireless charging is not available.
