Redmi K40 Gaming Edition Overview
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition covers all the basic features required for smooth gaming performance. Everything is up to the mark, from refresh rate, touch sampling rate, to the battery.
Design and Build Quality
Redmi has abandoned the traditional design of the gaming smartphone. It doesn’t look like a gaming phone but looks like a special edition.
A 6.67-inches OLED screen of the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone flaunts a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 480Hz. Similarly, it also has the support for HDR10+. A selfie camera lies in a punch hole cut out at the top-center of the display.
Both the front panel and the rear panel are protected by the Gorilla Glass 5. The camera on the rear is pretty amazingly designed; it lies in a vertical pill-shaped module. It also has Pulse ambient lighting, which lights up during the notifications.
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition has dual shoulder keys on the right side. On the left-hand side, it has a volume rocker and a mic, while on the top, it has an IR blaster, a noise-canceling mic, and a speaker. Likewise, the bottom features a SIM card slot, a Type-C port, and a secondary speaker.
The gaming phone is available in three color variants: Black, Gray, and Silver. Xiaomi has also brought an exclusive model as Bruce Lee Special Edition with a black and yellow colorway on the rear. The smartphone weighs 205 grams.
It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for unlocking the smartphone.
Performance
Powering the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition is a MediaTek MT6853 Dimensity 1200 5G SoC. It is built on the 6 nm fabrication process. A combination of graphene, graphite, and a vapor chamber cools the system. Mali-G77 MC9 handles the graphics of the gaming phone.
Similarly, the chipset is equipped with the Redmi’s heat dissipation system.
The smartphone has many memory options available; 128 GB of internal storage combines with either 6GB, 8GB, or 12 GB RAM, whereas 256 GB of inbuilt storage combines with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The storage type is UFS 3.1, and the RAM type is LPDDR4x.
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition runs on Android 11 based on MIUI 12.5 out of the box.
Camera
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition has a triple camera setup on the rear. An 8 MP ultra-wide camera follows a primary camera of 64 MP. Likewise, the ultra-wide camera has a 120-degree field of view. Finally, it has a macro camera of 2 MP.
Video options for the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition are 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 30/60/120fps, and 720p at 960fps.
A 16 MP sensor is available for the selfie camera on the front. The selfie snapper can record the videos in 1080p@30fps and 720p@120fps.
Battery
A large Li-Po 5065 mAh battery fuels the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. It supports 67W fast charging. The company claims that the battery gains 100% of the charge in 42 minutes. The battery further supports Power Delivery 3.0 and Quick Charge 3+.
