Although a relative newcomer started under the OPPO, Realme has become one of the most popular smartphone brands in the budget phone segment. With its back-to-back launches, aggressive marketing, and pricing, it has managed to grow significantly in a short span of time. With the growing competition in the budget category, Realme launched its Realme 5 series of phones in Nepal in January 2020.
The company introduced two phones under the series – Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro in Nepal. Realme 5 is a major upgrade over Realme 3 in its processing power, cameras, and battery power. The price of Realme 5 is Rs. 20,990 for the base variant of 3/64GB and the higher-end 4/128GB is priced at Rs. 23,990.
Realme 5 Overview
Design and Display
Realme 5 comes with an upgraded design from a classic diamond-cutting to a new crystal design. The phone comes in two color options – Crystal Blue and Crystal Purple. The back of Realme 5 is made of plastic with a polycarbonate finish.
The main attraction is its vertically aligned quad camera setup in the back. The LED flash is placed next to the camera module and the Realme branding at the bottom. Also, the phone comes with a fingerprint sensor in the back and a face-unlock feature.
In the front, Realme 5 has a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. A small dew-drop notch on the top housing a selfie camera and slim side bezels helps to retain a screen-to-body ratio of 82.7% and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The phone has a large display with curved edges and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3+ protection on top.
Camera
Realme 5 features the AI Quad Camera comprising a 12MP primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.8, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a huge 119-degree field-of-view, 2MP depth sensor, and another 2MP super macro lens with a focal length of 4cm for closeup shots.
Coming to the front camera, the phone comes with a 13MP f/2.0 selfie shooter with HDR mode.
Realme 5 can record videos up to 4K@30fps without stabilization and 1080p@30fps with stabilization. It can also shoot selfie videos at up to 1080p.
Performance
The processing power comes from Qualcomm SDM665 Snapdragon 665 (11nm) SoC. It is an Octa-core (4×2.0 GHz Kryo 260 Gold & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver) processor backed by Adreno 610 GPU for better gaming performance. The Realme comes in 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB of internal storage; expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card slot.
The Realme 5 runs on ColorOS 6.0.1 with Android 9 on top.
Battery
Realme 5 is backed by a 5000 mAh non-removable battery that can last for a day or more on average usage. But the device does not support fast charging and is charged with the supplied 10W charger which takes over 2 hours to top up the battery.

Realme 5 was launched with two variants in Nepal. The 3/64GB variant of the Realme 5 was priced at Rs. 20,990 and the higher-end with 4/128GB variant priced at Rs. 23,990. It was available in all official Realme stores and Daraz.
