Asus Officially Launches its New Gaming Phone – ASUS ROG Phone 5

Asus ROG Phone 3 was a massive success as the gaming phone in 2020; Asus has now launched the ROG Phone 5 – the number 4 is skipped. Asus ROG Phone 5 was launched on March 10, 2021. But before the release, there were already so many rumors and leaks about the device. Let us explore the phone.

ROG Phone 5 Overview

Asus ROG Phone series is well known as one of the best picks for those who want the best gaming phone. Likewise, the new release is likely to set a new standard for the range.  Following the Chinese/Taiwanese superstition, which says number 4 is unlucky, it sounds similar to the word “death” in Chinese; Asus has skipped the number 4 and named the phone Asus ROG Phone 5.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the smartphone is quite similar to the Asus ROG Phone 3. It has a 6.78 inches AMOLED screen, producing 1B colors. It has a 144Hz refresh rate and 1080 x 2448 pixels. Further, the smartphone has two color variants: Phantom Black and Storm White. It weighs 238 grams.

Asus ROG Phone 5 is available in various versions; An A, B, and C variant of the vanilla ROG Phone 5, depending on their bands and network connectivity, and memory variants. While the other is Asus ROG Phone 5 Pro and Asus ROG Phone 5 Ultimate.

Asus ROG Phone 5 Pro and Asus ROG Phone 5 Ultimate have a PMOLED ROG Vision display instead of the ROG RGB logo on the back panel. Such displays are also on the phone, like Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition.

The front glass is a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which gives drop resistance of up to 2 meters. Following this, the back has Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It has an in-display fingerprint reader.

Performance

As the rumors revealed, the device packs Snapdragon 888 with an octa-core, clocking up to 2.84 GHz. They further work together with Adreno 660.

The vanilla version of the phone has three RAM options of 8GB, 12 GB, and 16GB combines with an internal storage of 128 GB, 256 GB, and 256 GB, respectively. On the other hand, the Pro version has 16GB RAM with 512GB internal storage, and the Ultimate version has 18GB RAM with 512GB storage. The inbuilt-storage is non-expandable. 

As per the DxOMark,” the ROG Phone 5 delivers the best audio performance of all the phones we have tested to date”. A 3.5 mm headphone jack with ESS DAC is present.

AeroActive Cooler 5

From the beginning of the ROG Phone, the AeriActive cooler has been a part of the phone. Now, it has AeroActive Cooler 5 with two AirTrigger buttons.

It has a cooling fan, and as per the official claim, it drops 15-degree surface and 10-degree CPU temperature. Next, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a convenient kickstand.

Camera

Asus ROG Phone 5 flaunts a triple camera setup. The primary camera is a 64MP with Sony IMX686 sensor, while the other two lenses are a 13 MP ultrawide camera with 125-degree and a 5 MP macro camera. Likewise, the video is recordable up to 8K @30fps and at least 720p @480fps.

The selfie camera on the front is a 24 MP lens. The front camera can capture the video of 1080p @30fps.

Battery

A battery of 6,000 mAh is present with fast charge support of 65W. It also supports 10W reverse charging, Power Delivery of 3.0, and Quick Charge 5. As per the brand’s advertisement, it takes 30 min to fill the 70% charge while taking 52 minutes for 100%.

The 6000 mAh battery is split upon two 3,000 mAh cells, sitting on both sides of the CPU PCB.

Asus ROG Phone 5 Expected Price in Nepal and Availability

 The smartphone’s starting price in Europe is 800 Euros for the vanilla Asus ROG Phone 5 (8/128 GB). As the phone has just launched, it may take some months for the phone to be available in Nepal. The expected starting price of the smartphone is NPR 1,15,000 if it arrives in Nepal.
