Redmi Note 9 Overview
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 is yet another power-packed budget phone from the company. The users get an impressive camera setup, powerful battery with fast charging, sleek design, and P2i protected splash-proof design. It is the first phone in the world to employ the MediaTek Helio G85 processor.
Design and Build Quality
The Redmi Note 9 is very similar in design to Redmi Note 9 Pro. But its camera module has a little different placement to fit the rear-facing fingerprint reader. Also, the centered punch hole is on the top-left corner of the display.
A 6.53-inches IPD LCD FHD+ display has Gorilla Glass 5 protection with the plastic frame and has a plastic back. The phone’s large battery makes it bulky. The bezels are thin and well-trimmed. Fingerprints and smudges easily stick, requiring frequent wiping. The brightness level of the phone is quite impressive in sunlight too. The phone also feels slightly wide while holding.
The quad-camera on the back is just above the fingerprint reader. The fingerprint sensor is quiet above, making the fingers challenging to reach sometimes. Performance
The Redmi Note 9’s Chipset- MediaTek Helio G85- is the refresh over G80. The CPU is- 2 Cortex-A75 cores running at 2.0 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz paired with a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. The CPU clocks at 950 MHz on the Helio G80, while the G85 GPU clocks at 1000MHz.
The three variants of RAM and internal storage are 4/64 GB, 4/128 GB, and 6/128 GB. The gaming performance is average as the phone is mid-range. Fingerprint sensors and face-unlock are fast and reliable.
The phone runs on MIUI 12 on top of Android 10. The phone gives you a fast and smooth performance.
Camera
The quad-camera setup at the back has an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 48MP primary lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. The primary camera gives the average picture quality with moderate colors and details. Portrait images look decent. Also, the picture quality degrades as you get under the low light. Ultra-wide angle has a limited dynamic range. The image colors are over-saturated if you have a depth look at it.
The video of 1080p @ 30fps is recordable but lacks stabilization.
The selfie camera is a 13MP lens with an f/2.3 aperture having the features of HDR and panorama. Images from the selfie shooter are pleasing. Portrait selfie lacks edge detection, which is unnoticeable.
