On 8th January 2021, the Chinese brand Coolpad launched a new smartphone – Coolpad Cool S exclusively through Daraz in Nepal. It was Coolpad Cool S first launch across the world. Coolpad has already launched other smartphones like Coolpad Cool 10, Coolpad Cool 6, and Coolpad N7 Plus in Nepal.
Likewise, the official price of Coolpad Cool S in Nepal was NPR 22,590 for 4/128GB. However, the new price of Coolpad Cool S is Rs. 18,995 in Nepal. It is a budget range smartphone in the Nepalese tech market.
Coolpad Cool S Overview
Coolpad Cool S has massive storage and a battery, and a 25MP selfie camera. It is a cost-effective phone with decent specifications. Similarly, it has a quad-camera setup at the rear. The phone is launched only in Nepal and is expected to launch in other countries soon.
Design and Build Quality
Cool S has a 6.53 inches IPS LCD HD+ screen of 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Similarly, the phone is available in three different colors: Moon White, Lapis Blue, and Night Black. However, the white option variant is not available in Nepal.
The selfie on the front is inside a punch hole at the top-left corner. On the back, a quad-camera is present inside the L-shaped module. It also has Coolpad branding at the bottom. Similarly, the power button and the volume rocker are on the right edge, whereas the 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port 1.0 reversible Connector is at the bottom. The left edge has a dual SIM tray.
A fingerprint is side-mounted on the left, which is an odd place. The right-handed people may have to struggle with it. The phone also has a face-unlock for security. The face unlock feature in a mid-budget phone is always amazing to have.
The phone’s processing power comes from Mediatek MT6771 Helio P60 accompanied by octa-core – 4 cortex A73 cores at 2.1GHz and 4 cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The chipset features a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. It has 4GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage. Additionally, the storage is expandable via a microSD card up to 256GB.
The chipset is decent for the price range but still not the best performing.
The phone runs on Android 10 OS.
The rear camera on the back is a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 0.3MP depth camera. The quad-cameras have an aperture of f/1.8, f/2.0, f/2.0 aperture, respectively.
The rear camera can capture the footage of 1080p at 30fps.
The front camera is a 25MP Sony IMX576 with an aperture of f/2.0. Videos of 1080p at 30fps is recordable from the selfie snapper.
A Li-Po 5000 mAh battery fuels the phone. It supports 10W charging through a USB Type-C port.
