Adding a new smartphone in the series of Redmi 9, the company launched Xiaomi Redmi 9C on 30th June 2020 and released it on 12th August 2020. The phone was launched in November 2020 in Nepal. Xiaomi Redmi 9C Overview
The phone is good news for people who want a brand new smartphone with most features but are running on a tight budget. The fingerprint sensor on the rear side, 5000mAh battery, impressive camera setup accompanied by a pixel density of 269ppi gives the users no less feeling of holding an absolute smartphone with unique features. Redmi 9C is a good upgrade made to Redmi 9A with a better chipset. It is also one of the most affordable Xiaomi smartphones in Nepal under Redmi.
Design and Build Quality
Having a display of 6.53 inches with an IPS LCD and a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, the phone has an aspect ratio of 20:9 with 400 nits of maximum brightness. The water-drop notch display on the front houses the selfie camera. The smartphone is made from plastic with a plastic back and plastic frame.
On the bottom, there lies a speaker, USB Port for charging, and a mic. SIM slot and microSD card slot are on the left. The top has a headphone jack without an IR blaster. Similarly, the right side has a volume rocker.
At the back, the square camera is placed at the top left corner with a very appealing design. It also has a fingerprint sensor, which is rare in a small budget phone. The brightness of the phone is not quite impressive outdoor but is manageable. The phone is easy to hold and weighs 196 grams. Redmi 9A comes with three color variants: Midnight Gray, Sunrise Orange, and Twilight Blue.
Performance
Having the chipset of MediaTek’s Helio G35, the chipset is the latest budget gaming-focused from MediaTek. It has an octa-core 2.3 GHz CPU with 8 cortex-A53 cores, and the GPU of PowerVR GE8320 is clocked at 680MHz, a budget gaming-focused processor.
The phone runs on MIUI 11 on top of Android 10. Either 2 or 3 GB LPDDR4X RAM is present as the storage, which is expandable via microSD card. It accepts dual nano-SIM cards. The Redmi 9C supports face unlock and has the connectivity options of Wi-Fi, Micro-USB, 3G, and 4G.
Camera
The camera setup of a 13MP primary camera with an aperture of f/2.2, a 2MP macro sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture at the back on the top-left corner is present.
A wide variety of features like LED flash, ISO control, Continuous Shooting, Exposure compensation, digital zoom, HDR Mode, Face detection, Auto Flash are present. Overall phone’s camera is good enough, but you shouldn’t expect more as the indoor pictures have noticeable noise, and the quality degrades more while in low light. The rear portrait is imposing.
The selfie shooter of a 5MP is at the front with a teardrop design having an aperture of f/2.2 aperture. The photos are sometimes underexposed and sometimes overexposed. Also, the details are average. The portrait selfie is also average.
Video of 1080p @ 30fps is recordable, but they are overly sharp with noticeable noise, which is not good. The macro camera also records video of 720p, but it is not useable.
Battery
Powering the phone is a Li-Po 5000mAh battery, which is non-removable and supports 10W charging. Battery charging can take some time with 10W charging.
