Launched on 5th May 2020 was the Huawei Y series new smartphone Huawei Y6p. The budget phone Huawei Y6p is available in Nepal at NPR 16,790. The tech market is filled with low-budget smartphones these days, giving great features. Huawei is also bringing the new smartphone back to back even though it is facing the ban from the US Government and Google Services.
Huawei Y6p Overview
The phone’s hardware is promising. It has a massive 5000mAh battery with 4GB of RAM. However, the lack of Google Mobile Services is a significant drawback of the phone. With the budget you spend, expecting a powerful performance is foolishness. Yet, the phone is of great value.
Design and Build Quality
The phone’s display is 6.3 inches IPS LCD having a screen resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and 278 PPI pixel density. It has an aspect ratio of 20:9. The phone is made from a polycarbonate matte frame, giving the illusion of glass. It has a glossy back with a wavy S-shaped texture. The phone weighs 185 grams and has three color variants: Phantom Purple, Emerald Green, and Midnight Black.
The triple camera at the back is stacked vertically together with LED flash. Additionally, the fingerprint scanner and the branding of Huawei are on the rear side.
On the front, it has a dewdrop notch housing the front camera. The display is protected by a 2.5D glass panel and a pre-installed screen protector. On the right side of the phone are a power button and a volume rocker. Meanwhile, the hybrid SIM tray is located on the left side. On the top lies a secondary microphone, while the bottom has a loudspeaker, a micro-USB port, a primary microphone, and a headphone jack.
Performance & Storage
The processing power of Huawei Y6p comes from the MediaTek P22 MT6762R chipset. The chipset features octa-core, 2GHz, Cortex A53. Handling the GPU of the phone is PowerVR GE8320. Likewise, the phone has 3GB/32GB, 3GB/64GB, and 4GB/64GB variants of RAM and storage. The performance is decently smooth. But launching too many apps in the background may cause few stutters.
The rear’s biometrics are snappy, while the face unlocks struggles under low light.
The smartphone runs EMUI 10.1 on top of Android 10. It has night mode as well. And the phone does not offer Google mobile services and has its own App Gallery instead of Google Play Store. Some of the popular apps like Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube are directed with the web app version allowing you to add a shortcut to the home screen.
Camera
Huawei Y6p flaunts a triple camera on the rear side: the primary camera of 13MP with an aperture of f/1.8, an ultra-wide camera of 5MP having an f/2.2 aperture, and finally, a 2MP depth sensor of f/2.4 aperture.
The picture quality from the rear camera is vibrant and sharp, especially under good light. Night-mode is not available on the camera. Other features like HDR and panorama are available.
On the front, the phone sports a selfie camera of 8MP with an aperture of f/2.0.
The front camera’s selfies are bright, smooth, and have fair color tones. Slight noise can be seen, but the pictures are good to go for social media.
Huawei Y6p can record video up to 1080P at 30fps from both cameras. The video’s stabilization is not excellent, so you need to be super steady while recording it.
Battery
The phone packs a 5000mAh battery with 10W charging. It also supports one-way reverse charging. Moreover, it has backup mode allowing you to support two-way backup for data and photos. 36 hours of 4G calling, 32hours of video playback, 20 hours of 4G web surfing, and 37 hours of FM radio without earphones is achievable.
