Axiata and Google Cloud Working Together for Cloud Digitalization in Asian Nations

Ncell’s investor and Malaysian telecom company, Axiata Group will be working alongside Google Cloud to digitalize the economy across several countries of Asia, including Nepal. As confirmed by the joint announcement, the partnership will progress in two consecutive phases. The project includes implementation of Google Workspace and then Google Cloud services for Axiata business firms and customers respectively.

Google Workspace and Google Cloud Implementation

Initially, Axiata digital telcos will provide Google Workspace to Small and Medium Business. Dialog in Sri Lanka will start the implementation scheduled for the second quarter of this year, followed by Celcom in Malaysia, XL in Indonesia, Robi in Bangladesh, Ncell in Nepal, and Smart in Cambodia year. This will be a part of its integrated information and communications technology (ICT) portfolio and solution bundles.

In the second phase, Axiata’s digital telcos customers will use Google Cloud’s core compute, storage and networking facilities. It will help their existing infrastructures advance in other transformation initiatives.

Dr. Gopi Kurup, the CEO of Axiata Enterprise of stated that both Axiata and Google Cloud had a shared vision of helping businesses digitalize and grow as they build greater resilience for the long haul.

Cloud Technology for Change

Indonesia based XL Axiata has been operating with Google’s Anthos to power its hybrid and multi-cloud computing since 2020. Also, Malaysia’s Celcom Axiata uses Google’s digital solutions to digitalize its payment gateway. The telecom operators are planning to take more workloads to the clouds and use Google Cloud’s AI tools to improve customer experience by developing personalization and recommendation models.

Ruma Balasubramanian, the managing director of Google Cloud said that Cloud technology could be a game changer for small and medium businesses. It enables them to compete with larger companies with the help of digitalization. The partnership will accelerate the digital transformation of millions of small and medium businesses and help them identify and solve their business and technology-related challenges.

Impact in Nepal

Axiata will soon sign a merger with Norway’s Tenor ASA. The merger will combine the second and third largest telecom operators with the Malaysian telecom operations. Axiata’s collaboration with Google Cloud will help them digitalize businesses and enhance their customer services.

Since Axiata serves as the parent company of Ncell, one of Nepal’s major telcos, the partnership with Google Cloud will certainly impact Nepali business community. It will create whole new opportunities for Nepalese enterprises and businesses.
