Vivo is on a roll in the Nepali market, launching one phone after another. After the recent release of the Y20s, the company has launched another smartphone in Nepal, the Vivo Y12s. The Y12s is a budget-oriented smartphone from the company, which comes as an update to the Y12 phone launched back in 2019.
The device was made available for pre-order from last week with various lucky draw offers like a chance to win Vivo Y12s for 3 lucky customers, Rs 2,500 cash back, and a 1-month screen replacement offer for 100 and 500 customers respectively. It is now available for purchase in Nepal with the official price of the Y12s in Nepal set at Rs. 17,999 for 3/32 GB.
Vivo Y12s Overview
The Vivo Y12s is an update to the Y12 with an updated processor, larger screen, an added feature of reverse charging.
Design and Display
The design of the Y12s is quite similar to the Vivo Y20G and Vivo Y20s. The device’s body is made from polycarbonate and has a glossy finish on the back. The back panel features a rectangular camera module to house the rear camera setup and is available in Glacier Blue and Phantom Black color options.
The fingerprint sensor on Y12s is side-mounted on the device’s right frame, unlike the regular Y12, which had a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. This side fingerprint design integrates the fingerprint scanner with the power button allowing users to turn on and unlock the device at the same time. According to Vivo, the unlock speed from the bright screen is 0.23 seconds.
The device offers a 6.51 inch Halo FullView LCD display with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels in a 20:9 aspect ratio. The screen features a waterdrop notch to house the single front-facing camera. The screen-to-body ratio of the device is 81.6%, with noticeable bezels at the phone’s bottom chin.
Performance and Memory
The Y12s smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 processor with PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The P35 is an old processor and underperforming even for phones at this price range.
The device is available in the single memory configuration of 3GB RAM coupled with 32 GB of internal storage. The storage of the device can be further extended with the dedicated microSD card slot. The phone runs on FuntouchOS 11 based on Android 10 out of the box.
Camera
The Y12s features a rear dual-camera setup consisting of a 13 MP primary lens with 1f/2.2 aperture and a 2 MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The cameras and the LED flash are arranged vertically inside the camera module on the back panel of the phone. The selfie camera upfront is an 8 MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, housed inside the waterdrop notch.
The camera can record up to 1080p videos at 30 fps and features Portrait, Photo, Video, Pano, Live Photo, Slo-Mo, Time-Lapse, Pro, DOC scene modes.
Battery
The Y12s is fueled by a massive 5000 mAh battery. The phone still uses a micro USB 2.0 port for charging with no support for fast charging. However, the device supports reverse charging.
