Apple announced the new M1 chip-powered MacBook Air and MacBook Pro in November last year. Now, they are finally available in Nepal this year. Apple MacBook Air, Pro 13” Overview

The design of the new MacBook Air and Pro remained the same with identical dimensions and weight as compared with their previous model. The main upgrade is the integration of the new Apple M1 chip built using the 5nm process mode and packed with an astonishing 16 billion transistors.

Display

Apple M1 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro feature a 13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology. The Retina display with up to 2560 x 1600 native resolution at 227 pixels per inch gives the image incredible detail and realism. Also, with the support of P3 wide color, the colors are more vibrant. Both MacBooks come with Apple’s True Tone technology, which automatically adjusts the white balance to match your environment. MacBook Air supports 400 nits brightness whereas, MacBook Pro supports 500 nits brightness.

Apple MacBook Air and MacBook Pro both come with Apple’s first chip designed specifically for Mac – Apple M1 SoC. It integrates an 8-core CPU  with four performance cores and four efficiency cores to give you high performance with energy efficiency, up to 8-core GPU capable of running 25,000 threads simultaneously, a 16-core Neural Engine that can compute 11 trillion operations per second.

Moreover, as per the company’s claims, MacBook Air provides up to 3.5x faster CPU performance, GPU speeds up to 5x faster, and 9x faster machine learning. Likewise, MacBook Pro provides up to 2.8x faster CPU performance, up to 5x faster graphics, and up to 11x faster Machine Learning performance.

Battery and Power

The M1 MacBook Air comes with an integrated 49.9 watt-hour lithium-polymer battery with a 30W USB-C Power Adapter and USB-C charge cable (2m) inside the box. Apple claims MacBook Air offers up to 18 hours of battery life. It has a fan-less design compared to the M1 MacBook Pro with an active cooling system. 

M1 MacBook Pro features a built-in 58.2 watt-hour lithium-polymer battery with a 61W USB-C Power Adapter and USB-C charge cable (2m) inside the box. The battery endurance is up to 20 hours as per the company’s claims.

Camera and Audio

Both MacBooks flaunts a 720p FaceTime HD camera. For audio, the M1 MacBook Air has Stereo Speakers, Wide stereo sound, support for Dolby Atmos playback, a Three-microphone array with directional beamforming, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

As for the M1 MacBook Pro, it has Stereo Speakers with a high dynamic range, Wide stereo sound, support for Dolby Atmos playback, Studio-quality three-mic array with a high signal-to-noise ratio and directional beamforming, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Keyboard, Trackpad and other features

Apple M1 MacBook Air and Pro both use Backlit Magic Keyboard with an Ambient light sensor and Scissor mechanism to deliver the best typing experience, as well as the Force Touch trackpad for precise cursor control and pressure-sensing capabilities. The M1 MacBook Pro comes with a Touch Bar to add shortcuts and features, which is missing in the M1 MacBook Air. But, both MacBooks have a Touch ID sensor for locking and unlocking the device.
